Neurodiverse conditions such as ADHD and Autism can interrupt how couples are connected in many ways. Relationship Living’s neurodiversity counselling approach will help to learn to identify the patterns and interrupt them by deconstructing and reconstructing new ways of connecting in your relationship.
Neurodiverse Relationships
Neurodiverse couples (where one or both partners have a specific neurodiverse condition such as ADHD, Autism etc.) require more than a traditional counselling approach where I blend counselling and coaching together. I have worked with couples and individuals with these conditions for over 10 years, and worked as a traditional general therapist for over 20 years. I developed the Relationship Interventionist approach to support couples or families living with ADHD on their recovery journey.
The approach provides a blend of coaching and counselling approaches to provide a structure and cover topics that identify how couples are stuck in patterns of relating. Couples learn to identify the patterns and interrupt them by deconstructing and reconstructing new ways of connecting in their relationship.
When people first approach me, their interactions are negative towards each other, and their relationship is mixed with anger, hopelessness and often full of conversations where couples try to identify whether it’s the ADHD that is causing their difficulties or whether it’s that they are not compatible.
The Relationship Interventionist approach aims to develop more intimacy, stability and strategies for people to introduce to their relationship, and create the life they truly want together.
